Super Quality Machining for Supercar

Challenge:

A state of the art super car engine required a reliable main drive shaft seal assembly. Any leakage would damage the high-performance engine and cause an expensive replacement or repair. The interference fit between the machined aluminum billet housing and the rubberized mechanical seal required 100% verification.

Solution:

The housing was machined from solid aluminum billet to avoid leakage common with casting porosity. A special non-contact inspection machine was developed to simultaneously 100% verify the soft rubber seal outside diameter and the machined aluminum housing inside diameter. The components are then assembled with an error proofed hydraulic press. The same inspection machine verifies the pressed seal for tilt and depth after assembly.

Results:

A very prominent automotive OEM relies on Millat Industries to ensure the integrity and reputation of its flagship supercar. Insanely Cool!
