Millat Industries Joins America Makes

March 18, 2021

Millat Industries is excited to announce its membership with America Makes, the national accelerator for additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing. America Makes members from industry, academia, government, workforce, and economic development organizations work together to accelerate the adoption of AM and the nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness.

Through its membership with America Makes, Millat Industries will support key projects focused on innovation within the AM industry through collaboration with fellow “movers and shakers” of this transformative technology. Millat Industries views this partnership as a pivotal step in its AM journey, complementing its current investment in additive equipment and support services.

America Makes was founded in 2012 as the United States Department of Defense’s national manufacturing innovation institute for AM and the first of the Manufacturing USA network. Based in Youngstown, Ohio, America Makes is structured as a public-private partnership and is managed and operated by the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). The organization brings together members from across the United States with a shared goal of accelerating 3D printing into mainstream manufacturing.

Millat Industries is currently supporting America Makes Project 5001.002.001, which seeks to characterize the tensile behavior of additively manufactured metal lattice structures – an exciting geometry that AM has largely made possible.

The Ohio State University’s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) is serving as the project principal, while Millat Industries will provide the Wire EDM and machining services for the cutoff operation of the samples from the build plate. Millat Industries’ NADCAP-approved Wire EDM department can perform these operations on build plates up to ~10” (254mm) square – no alloy is too tough for these EDMs!
